Ive played this game almost since release, so Ive seen it all. This game is a horrible waste of time, and the sooner its shut down, the better.
Con 1 - Repetitive: Let me make it clear that 95% of your playtime will be spent "auto-battling". The developers are lazy, and copy paste almost every boss and AI between stages and raids. ALL (every single story) bosses have the same exact functions in their coding. At 60%, they run away in a random pattern for 5 seconds then become completely invincible, and at 20% they do it again. Every boss. Its laughable and pathetic, and you quickly realize there was 0 effort put into making the game any fun. After doing 10 stages across 9 different realms for 90 stages total, you do it all over except the mobs are slightly stronger. After 90 MORE repetitive stages, you do it again, except this time the mobs damage jumps from 500~ to 10,000-40,000. And your Max HP will probably be between 10-20k. Let that sink in for a moment. Also, every single stage follows the same exact formula of 3 maps, which all have about 10 seconds of walking distance in total. Map 1 and 2 are 8-20 random mobs. Map 3 is a bunch of mobs + the boss. Every. Single. Stage. They even give out "Sweep Tickets" which let you auto-run an already completed battle 1-10x instantly, and "battle wave" which just autos a battle 1-10x but you have to watch. Ive used more than 6,000 sweep tickets, and are nowhere close to maximizing my gear. When you hear the phrase "Raid Battle", do you envision multiple players combining their unique strengths to take down a powerful opponent? What we actually have is another copy-pasted AI, where you or another player dash as fast as you can to the boss and kill it in 1-hit. An epic...6 second raid battle. The loading and prize collection take longer than the fight. The game also expects you to run this an estimated 5,000+ times if you want to max out all your equipment. This number is NOT an exaggeration (I wish it was...)
Con 2 - Unfair: As I just mentioned, when you reach the final difficulty, "Legend", prepare to be one-shotted almost always. Theres an element called "Holy", and the more "Holy DEF", the higher chance you negate stuns. Now, theres stuns, and then theres electrical-chain stuns. Random monsters shoot electricity and grab you from 1/4 of the map (higher than any characters actual attack range), and then stun you for anywhere from 5~20 seconds. This is unavoidable, and can not be weakened. Yep, the stun resistance flat out doesnt work when it actually should. Combine this with the 1-shot wonders, and realize the game becomes very boring.
Con 3 - Single-player MMO: What does this even mean? Zenonia S advertises itself as an MMO for mobile devices. You start out in the (only) city, and see a bunch of other human characters. The town takes about 12 seconds to walk around and seen everything. Thats about as MMO as it gets. The normal story dungeons are solo-only. Fairy Tower (a 10-floor dungeon) is solo-only, where you are allowed to summon a friends AI bot for 1 floor. It lasts 40 seconds. Thats it. Monster Wave (90 second monster rush) is solo-only. Raid allows you to recruit other players, but if there are no or not enough players after 30 seconds, it gives you AI bots pretending to be actual players (I have actually seen my own bot before!). But who cares when raid lasts for less than 10 seconds anyways?
Con 4 - Bugs: I will actually be nice here and say there arent too many bugs. However, the bugs that exist have always existed and are flat out not getting fixed. Those crappy raids that take 50 seconds to start and 10 seconds to clear crash almost 30% of the time. A passive skill for EVERY job has been bugged since the beginning, and 4 months later it still is bugged.
Con 5 - Bad Autoban/ no moderation: It is very easy to hack this game, and there is no way to report someone and have action be taken. Example: a character named "Admin" (YES, his name is Admin! That got through character creation!) has been botting, spamming the global chat with links promising free zen (premium currency) for over three weeks, for hours every day! He has been reported to customer service multiple times, and they have even responded with "This issue has been resolved", yet hes still here. He is just one of many botters, and there are maaaaany hackers.
Con 6 - Arena: Arena is con 1~3 combined. You get 10 arena tickets a day (can hold 20 at once), so you can enter 10 times a day. Youre almost required to do them every day to finish a daily mission, and because they are the best and only non-gifted source of accessories (of which you equip 4 at once). You pit your character against another characters...AI bot. Yup. 1v1s against bots. In a tiny arena that literally fits your phone screen. Remember when I talked about Holy DEF? A player who has a lot of Holy ATK (95%+ of the player base) will stun you in one hit. Even if they miss. So the arena is best summed up as letting an AI bot run up to you, one of you stuns the other, then kills the other in 3 seconds. Multiply this by your 10 daily entrances.
Con 7 - Limits your progression: Most stamina-based games do this, but Zenonia S takes it to a whole new level. Remember when I said youre expected to raid 5,000+ times to max out your stuff? I meant it. Getting a transcended SS weapon takes 900 crystals, of which you have a CHANCE (around 10-20%) of getting 8-10 per run. Upgrading a weapon from S->SS takes 300 weapon stones, and SS->SSS takes 600 weapon stones. These are only either given away, or obtainable via monster wave. Youre allowed to get up to 7 stones per run, and are capped at 3 runs per day.
Ive reached the character limit for this review, but there is a LOT more to talk about. This game is terrible, and an abomination to video games. Do not play it, or give it any time or attention.
